The reason is that most of general (intro) chemistry can only be explained properly from quantum physics and a deep dive into physical chemistry. Often, a lot of material has to be memorized because the explanations are too inaccessible. Counterintuitively, it takes a physicist to properly teach chemistry. My background in physical chemistry and physics allows me to teach the material thoroughly and efficiently. I was awarded the 2004 Goldwater Scholarship for my research in physical chemistry, “the premier undergraduate award of its type in these fields.”
